This prestigious award recognizes his outstanding contribution to the art of cinema, and it's a well-deserved honor for a filmmaker whose work has captivated audiences and critics worldwide.
What makes Farhadi's achievement even more remarkable is the context of his return to Sarajevo. Eight years ago, in 2018, he served as jury president for the feature film competition, and his film 'Everybody Knows' screened in the Open Air program. Now, he's back to receive an award that celebrates his impact on cinema.

Farhadi's journey to becoming a renowned filmmaker began in Iran. Born in 1972, he developed a passion for cinema as a teenager and joined the Youth Cinema Society of Esfahan in 1986, where he made short films. His dedication to filmmaking led him to Tehran University, where he devoted his final thesis to the work of Harold Pinter, exploring the importance of silence and pauses in the playwright's work.
His directorial debut, 'Dancing in the Dust' (2002), marked the beginning of a successful career. After the critical acclaim of 'About Elly' (2009), which earned him the Silver Bear for best director at the Berlinale, Farhadi gained international recognition with 'A Separation' (2011). This film not only won him the Oscar and César for best foreign film but also solidified his place as a master of storytelling.
Farhadi's success continued with 'The Past' (2013), shot in France, and 'The Salesman' (2016), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and earned him his second Academy Award. His most recent works, 'A Hero' and 'Parallel Tales,' further showcased his versatility and artistic prowess, premiering at Cannes in 2021 and 2026, respectively.
