The future of ATS Euromaster's UK operations is in flux, with a dramatic shift in store for one of its Lake-based centers. The Spithead Business Centre location is poised to transform into a Formula One Autocentre, marking a significant change for the company and its employees.
Amid a nationwide strategic retreat, ATS Euromaster has unveiled plans to initiate an organized closure of its UK business. Despite efforts to curb financial losses, including the closure of 86 unprofitable centers in 2025, the company has been unable to stabilize its financial situation. This has led to the proposed sale of a substantial portion of its points of sale.
In a bold move, ATS Euromaster intends to sell 35 out of its 152 sales locations to Formula One Autocentres, with an additional 14 sites going to S&M Tyres, trading as Elite Garages. The Lake site is among those destined for Formula One Autocentres, with staff expected to transition under TUPE regulations by April 30, 2026. But here's where it gets tricky: the transfer hinges on the landlord's consent.
If all goes according to plan, 216 employees across 49 sites will find themselves working for new owners, a significant change for the workforce. Nick Harley, Group Managing Director of Euromaster UK, acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating that it is a sad and challenging time for all involved. He emphasized the team's efforts to turn the business around but conceded that market competition, sector inactivity, and rising costs have made a break-even position unattainable.
This announcement comes on the heels of the closure of another ATS Euromaster branch in Newport in 2021, which later reopened as an Elite Garages in 2022. ATS has assured customers and suppliers of a well-managed wind-down process, ensuring commitments are honored.
