Get ready for an exclusive fashion journey as we dive into Louis Vuitton's latest campaign, celebrating the iconic Monogram canvas's 130th anniversary!
The Power of Monogram: Louis Vuitton, a fashion powerhouse, is pulling out all the stops to commemorate this milestone. The brand has enlisted the talented Zendaya, along with other celebrity friends, to star in a campaign that showcases the timeless appeal of the Monogram canvas.
The campaign visuals, featuring Zendaya posing alongside the iconic Speedy handbag, are set to make a grand debut this Thursday across Louis Vuitton's platforms and in print with other renowned celebrities.
But here's where it gets intriguing: this campaign is part of a larger celebration, building upon the success of the first round of ads that debuted on January 1st. Those ads highlighted vintage Monogram bags, celebrating the unique character and patina that develops over time with frequent use.
Speaking at LVMH's annual results presentation, Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of the parent company, emphasized the brand's focus on its core handbag category. He noted, "We are focusing instead of diversifying. The campaign performed incredibly well, even though the product has been around for 50 years."
As part of a year-long celebration, the new celebrity ads were captured by Glen Luchford, with short films directed by Roman Coppola. One of the videos features Zendaya addressing her Speedy handbag, a soft and versatile style that has been a symbol of freedom since its creation in 1930.
Zendaya's thoughts on her Speedy are a highlight: "With you, I feel a familiar connection, a reflection of my instinct for velocity. Perhaps it's the shared attraction to speed, the desire to race into the future together."
And this is the part most people miss: the campaign also features other notable figures. Starting February 11th, Louis Vuitton will unveil a second chapter, pairing French actress Catherine Deneuve with a structured Alma bag, Chinese American actress Liu Yifei with a Noé bucket bag, and South Korean model and actress Hoyeon with a Neverfull tote.
The Speedy handbag, produced in Monogram canvas since 1959, has been a canvas for artistic collaborations since 2001. Back in 1996, for the centenary of the brown and gold patterned canvas, Vuitton collaborated with designers like Helmut Lang, Romeo Gigli, and Vivienne Westwood to create unique bags and travel pieces.
In 2014, Vuitton revisited this concept, giving creative freedom to iconoclasts like Karl Lagerfeld and Cindy Sherman to design bags and luggage in the iconic Monogram canvas.
Louis Vuitton is planning an extensive celebration throughout 2026, delving into the origins of the motif with special-edition anniversary collections, dedicated campaigns, pop-ups, and exciting surprises.
So, what do you think? Is this campaign a brilliant celebration of a fashion icon, or does it miss the mark? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's spark a fashion-forward discussion!
